have you ever felt like you were sleepwalking through your life?  i refer to this as spiritual somnambulism!  as the pace of the world increases, it's easy to live on autopilot, just going through the motions to get through the day.  that's where yoga comes in!  yoga is a process of awakening.  it's a tool that gives us the opportunity to engage fully in each unfolding moment, to become acutely present with all facets of our lives, and to be awake and alive!  aside from the physical practice, the fascination that yoga holds for me is in the subtle yet powerful impact on the spirit.  yoga teaches us to react less habitually and to respond more gracefully to life's challenges.  it brings us to a greater understanding of who we really are which allows us to live with authenticity.  and it removes blockages, making room for clarity and radiance.  through yoga, i hope you will taste the vitality of life's bounty and become increasingly awake and aware of your one very wild and precious life!

my desire is to share the yoga experience with anyone who seeks another avenue to bring awareness to the body, mind and spirit. my class offers you a place to escape the daily grind, to step on your mat and feel yourself transform, to deepen the breath, quiet the mind and move your body. yoga has done all of this for me, empowering me to live a more balanced life.

i had my first taste of yoga atfer my oldest son was born and sine then my love for it has grown and continues to do so.  it began for me as a physical practice and eventually i discovered that the world of yoga was so much more than that.  yoga opened a doorway into a new way of experiencing life.  it takes me to new heights physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually and i know that i will have the pleasure of being a lifelong student of yoga.  my desire is to join others in their own journeys, sharing all that i can, providing a safe place for people to connect with their true selves; a place where they can let go and just be.  i want to help them experience things on their mat that they can take into their daily lives and if i can provide someone with even a glimpse of what yoga has to offer, then i have done something beautiful!

i initially came to yoga for several reasons, to be connected to the mind body through the practice of asana and to be present in a mindful community.  what i found was much more. through yoga i have found a vehicle in which to traverse a path of learning one’s self, a process of looking not for answers but for questions, how and why i live my life the way i do, and essentially what i am made of?  as a teacher trained in ashtanga based vinyasa flow i focus strongly on alignment, synchronizing the breath with movement, exploration of the mind body connection and i strive to bring my passion for yoga into the studio with energy, love and honor. my classes are energitic, offer exploration of a wide range of asana, and are available to all body types from beginner to seasoned practitioners. i believe there are as many ways to practice yoga as there are people. just as there is no one body exactly the same as another, there is no one yoga. i encourage practitioners to make the practice their own, on their own terms, on their own time and to traverse the path as it is seen to them, in their own body.

my journey down the path of yoga began as an attempt to heal my body and relieve some stress.  what i got was that and so much more!  i feel in love!  yoga has changed my life in so many ways.  i have learned how to listen to my body and not only be present in my practice, but in every aspect of my life.  it has opened my eyes and guided me down a path of truly living!  being on the mat is my safe place.  my ambition now is to guide others down the amazing path of yoga ... helping others find their true selves, let go, be present, and of course, sweat a little!

i love yoga!  it has changed my body, my mind, my heart. the most amazing thing about yoga is that it is always the right time to start your practice: you can never be too stiff or too fit; too old or too young to step onto a mat. this practice is about taking a journey with your mind and body. every class, every pose, moves you a little further along in your journey. and after a while, you turn around – see how far you have come! when you look forward again, see how far you still get to travel. . .

there is no competition in yoga. it is not even really about the poses – how “perfect” they look or how long you can hold them without falling out. yoga is a practice of awareness without judgment. how amazing is that? i bring a love of yoga to every class i take or teach. i invite you to join with me in the fun and transformative effect of this practice!

i came to yoga in 2002 after many years as a dancer.  after a serious knee injury (acl tear, ouch) i really became aware of the healing aspects of yoga on a physical and emotional level, which lead to my journey as a yoga teacher. i completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training with dolly at asmi yoga in july 2009, and am honored to be able to be part of the asmi teaching staff.  i love yin yoga for the health benefits it brings to our muscles, connective tissues, joints and ligaments;  and for the way it helps us cultivate patience and awareness for being truly in the moment.  as a teacher, my goal is to create a safe and gentle space where the benefits of yoga can be made available to all ages, sizes, and flexibility levels.  start where you are and watch what happens!

my interest in mind body awareness training began while studying zazen meditation in japan in 1988.  as an avenue to increase the understanding of the mind body connection, i took an iyengar teacher training program and ventured into many styles of yoga, including yin, vinyasa, iyengar and meditation.  i enjoy threading the knowledge cultivated from practice into my own version, gently threading poses together using props to influence the body's innate healing potential.  i strive to inspire the lives of my students with my passion for inquiring into individual needs for rehabilitation, recovery and centering through simple breath awareness dialogue.  iyengar yoga's influences help keep me active in my yoga studies which are primarily focused on alignment and restorative yoga.

where you find one, you undoubtedly find the other... teaching and practicing side by side we bring love and positive energy wherever we go...  trained to teach by the delightful dolly and yoga fit, we practice the art of a joyous journey through the daily gift that is life...  with experience in vinyasa, sivananda, bikram, kundalini, yin, and restorative yoga we blend traditional and modern approaches... our lighthearted method to living is embodied in the yoga we offer to the everyday central oregonian... together may we share the great reflection of community as we dance in the delicate discovery of personal understanding...

life can be messy & some days my practice reflects that. it is yoga that has taught me that this is okay. with each new day i am different, my body is different, & yoga has brought me to a place where i can embrace that. each time that i teach or practice i find myself going deeper & discovering different parts of myself. yoga has changed me forever for the better. i am not the same as i was before i started this journey & there is nothing that could ever make me wish to return. the reality is that change is not easy & very rarely is the process pretty, but yoga has given me the gifts of concious breath, grace, & acceptance which makes it easier for me to just be with what is rather than wishing for something that is not. in every class that i teach i hope to impart this acceptance of self & other. namaste.
