manifesto

we believe …

that yoga is for every body, regardless of ability, flexibility, race, creed, gender, religion or eye color … that being able to put your leg behind your head doesn’t necessarily make you happier … that breathing consciously and fully is yoga … that being present for the moments of your life means you’re really living … that being beautiful has nothing to do with what you look like on the outside, and everything to do with the quality of light that shines from your eyes … that a smile can change everything … that learning to cultivate gratitude in this challenging world is a victory worth celebrating … that the small things in life offer the richest rewards … that keeping good company is as vital as being good company … that it’s OK to take your yoga seriously as long as you take yourself lightly … that compassion is something you are and not something you do … that abundance and joy are our birthright … that the way you think shapes your future … that everything you do today determines who you will be tomorrow … that it’s not easy, but it’s worth it … that the best kind of yoga is the one you do … that being true to yourself might be the single hardest thing you will do and the single most important … that this life is a blessing beyond imagination … that showing up and doing the work doesn’t guarantee anything … that practicing non-attachment is the healing salve for suffering … that you are perfect as you are, and you could use a little work … that it’s better to live your own life imperfectly than to live a copy of someone else’s perfectly … that we should stop trying to be someone else because everyone else is already taken … that the story of your life is just that; a story … that transformation is not only possible, it’s probable … that the human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it … that the practice won’t work if you’re hiding from yourself … that global revolution begins with personal revolution … that when we don’t grow there is pain and when we do grow there is pain, so we might as well grow … that it’s not a yoga perfect, it’s a yoga practice … that life is a shifting, moving, changing series of events … that what we see depends mainly on what we look for … that your life is your message … that every action has a connected consequence … that at the end of your life you’ll either be an example or a warning … that to learn anything we have to let go of what we think we know … that it’s impossible to heal ourselves and injure ourselves at the same time … that improvement begins with i … that attitudes are contagious and we would do well to make sure ours is worth catching … that there is no right way to do a wrong thing … that small efforts made consistently often have greater impact than one large effort … that when you hold on the universe holds back … that there’s a difference between knowing the path and walking the path … that we’re not using the body to get into the postures, but using the postures to get into the body … that we don’t need a new life, we simply need to bring awareness to the one we already have … that we’re on a journey to become who we already are … that each person’s yoga pose should look different from their neighbor’s … that if we expend too much energy we violate, and if we don’t expend enough we shortchange … that a cyclone derives it’s power from a calm center and so does a person … that just as the beautiful lotus grows from the muck and mud, so can we as human beings take the challenges of life and from them, blossom … that prana is energy or life force and rides into our body on the breath, therefore we should breathe as deeply as we wish to live … that we have the choice to either become bitter or better … that it’s never too late to change … that if you change your consciousness you change your life … that energy is never lost or gone, it’s only blocked … that everything contains it’s opposite … that yoga is not about learning to stand on our head, but on our own two feet … that the body doesn’t lie … that there is a snooze button for life and it’s called procrastination … that a year from now you’ll wish you had started today … that someday is not a day of the week … that if we could all throw our problems in a pile, we’d take a look at everyone else’s and grab ours back as quickly as we could … that the word guru is spelled g-u-r-u … that the truth of your lifestyle will show up on your mat … that we are each a common denominator of humanity … that just turning over in your rut is huge … that we may have weaknesses but that doesn’t make us weak … that the obstacles are the path … that people rarely ever fail, they only stop trying … that you’re either now here or nowhere … that the meaning of life is less important than the experience of being alive … that each step forward in our practice is actually a step inward … and that we would all do well to light our lives on fire then seek to surround ourselves with those who fan the flames.
